Automatic Home Cage System

Description

The Automatic Home Cage System provides a fully automated environment for chronic disease research and behavioral studies in up to 10 mice. Inspired by the Nature Communications study on high-throughput home-cage imaging, this system integrates RFID identification, continuous weight measurement, and automated fixation to enable simultaneous behavioral tasks and imaging with minimal user intervention.

Mice can move freely between two interconnected cages, while the system continuously tracks weight via integrated scales. A fixation system secures the animals for behavioral assessments or imaging sessions, and two infrared cameras provide comprehensive monitoring. On average, mice experience approximately 30 fixations per day, depending on experimental parameters.
