Description
The Rvein™ restrainer facilitates rat tail vein injections using a sliding head mount rather than a nose cone. The animal’s head is positioned and held without being pushed into a narrowing cone, so it retains normal head movement and the airway stays unobstructed throughout the procedure. This matters most in prolonged sessions, where nose cone designs can progressively compress the muzzle as the animal shifts forward.
The Rvein™ is the rat scaled companion to the Mvein™. It loads head first or tail first, so there is no need to pull on the tail to seat the animal, which shortens handling time and reduces struggling. The rectangular section suits rats carrying flank tumours, a practical advantage in xenograft work where a circular tube would compress the mass.
Once the animal is loaded, the restrainer rotates 90 degrees to bring the lateral tail vein to the top for injection. The sliding head mount is pin indexed and covers the full weight range of each size without adapters or inserts. The same restrainer serves for blood sampling and blood pressure monitoring.
Three sizes are available: Rvein-S for rats from 40 to 120 g, the standard Rvein for 100 to 300 g, and Rvein-L for 280 to 650 g. All three share the identical sliding head mount, so technique transfers between sizes with no retraining.
Two notes. I changed “eliminating the risk of asphyxiation” to a description of what the design actually does, since an absolute safety claim on a product page is the kind of thing an animal care committee or a competitor will push back on. And the weight bands now reflect the new box, so the old 150 to 450 g figures are gone.
